 Silent Hill f is a horror video game series within the Silent Hill franchise developed by NeoBards with Konami as a publisher, released in September 2025. Touted as a fog horror game, it acts as a standalone spin-off entry in that it does not require, for players, previous series experience.

It takes place in the 1960s in Japan and is about a cursed mountain town that is consumed by fog and a woman called Hinako Shimizu. Although it also explores the psychological horror of the franchise, Silent Hill f has also gone bold, culturally, thematically, and visually. Our main character is a high school girl named Hinako Shimizu, whose life has been shaken as a result of Ebisugaoka being absorbed in a mysterious fog. As the fog spreads, reality breaks. Monsters start to appear, ordinary locations turn into perverted Otherworlds, and the secrets of the town start to be revealed.

Hinako has to fight with these horrors, solve puzzles, and discover the truth about the ‘Dark Shrine,’ a confronting alternate world that distorts space, memory, and identity. The decisions that the player makes along the way affect several endings, where one is left to consider the issues of guilt, trauma, and transformation.

Silent Hill f maintains a lot of secrets to its story, though the strokes are very general. Nevertheless, even trailers indicate a plot that slowly unveils the layers of identity of Hinako and the history of the town. 

Gameplay and Mechanics

Silent Hill f is not about constant fighting and focuses more on the psychological dread. Although confrontations are present, the focus is on resource management, vulnerability, and tension as opposed to action spectacle.

Combat is oriented towards melee combat: the protagonists may not have a set of guns, but a set of basic weapons (pipes, spears). Such elements of the system as stamina, sanity, parrying, and the timing of attacks come into play. Part of the initial impressions include: parry-heavy combat and concern with balance in more challenging situations.

It is also about exploration and solving puzzles. A lot of sequences are transferred to the Dark Shrine (Otherworld) areas - twisted, labyrinthine worlds that bend reality and challenge perception. Inventory and items also contribute: the number of slots and healing items, as well as upgrades, make the options significant.

Hinako is not a tough hero; she is vulnerable, limited by social conventions, and ready to crumble. Her vulnerability also makes her experience with horror that much more significant.

The developers talk much of beauty and terror being together, the hideous is alluring, the beautiful horrible. The narrative is filled with themes of regret, loss, identity, and the effects of trauma on memory.

The various endings invite the players to think about their decisions and the way the psyche of Hinako can look after her experience. 

Silent Hill f Release Date and Platforms. 

The official release of Silent Hill f is on September 25, 2025 (and those who have purchased the Deluxe Edition will have early access since September 23). The game can be played on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, or Windows (Steam / Epic). Konami also provides improved graphics and performance options on PS5 (and PS5 Pro).

The game was listed on Steam with a strong community response and "Very Positive" reviews. 

Conclusion 

Silent Hill f is a risk - and a bold one. The fact that the franchise themes are transposed to the 1960s in Japan implies that Silent Hill will no longer be tied down to a single place or style formula. It demonstrates that psychological horror may develop, experiment, and yet to be recognizable.

Silent Hill f may be a new, spooky experience for new players. To old school fans, it provides both comfort and progression, a call to reimagine what Silent Hill can be.
